Dr. Padma Kaul received her PhD from the University of Alberta and did a postdoctoral fellowship at Duke University. She is a professor in the Division of Cardiology in the Department of Medicine at the University of Alberta. She is also a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Women and Children’s Cardiometabolic Health and the Heart & Stroke Foundation Chair in Cardiovascular Research. Dr. Kaul recently completed her term as a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Chair in Sex and Gender Science in Diabetes.
She is a co-director of the Canadian VIGOUR Centre and the Women and Children's Health Research Institute's AI+Data Hub academic lead. Her research utilizes population-level administrative health data to examine the effects of cardiovascular disease and diabetes, particularly on the health of women and children. Her team is looking at how artificial intelligence can improve health-care decision-making, implement system-level improvements, and advance the development of a learning health system.
Dr. Kaul has extensive experience working with population-level administrative data, clinical registries, as well as large, multinational clinical trials using an integrated database that links inpatient, outpatient, and vital statistic databases to examine cardiovascular care in Canada.
