After a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico, she was appointed Assistant Professor joint in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology (now the Department of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences) and the School of Environmental Studies in 2001. She received tenure with promotion to Associate Professor in 2007 and promotion to Full Professor in 2011. Dr. Winn’s research interests are in understanding the mechanisms of toxicant induced developmental toxicity, including that of benzene toxicity. Recognition of the novelty and quality of Dr. Winn’s research by the scientific community are reflected by her receipt of several awards including the 2009 F. Dr. Winn has contributed to educational programs in both of her units and has supervised many graduate students. Additionally, she serves on many Departmental and University committees and is currently the Associate Dean of Life Sciences and Biochemistry. Outside the University, she has served on the Board of Directors of Canadians for Health Research, served as a peer review panel member and Scientific Officer for the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and is a Past-President of the Society of Toxicology of Canada.
